Khawaja Ghulam Farid

Khwaja Ghulam Farid (1845-1901)

Khwaja Ghulam Fareed was a Chishti Sufi poet of southern Punjab. Khwaja Farid composed kafis in multiple languages including Braj Bhasha, Persian and Urdu. However, it is for his diwan of Punjabi/Saraiki verse that Khwaja Farid is perhaps most well-known. Although Farid was educated under the aegis of the Nawab of Bahawalpur, Sadeq Mohammad Khan III, the poet spent eighteen years in ascetic retreat from the world (chilla) in the Cholistan desert.
